LET’S PLAY! WHY NOT?

LET’S PLAY
2015 | performance | 30′

Let’s play studies the origins of power and obedience, of control and resistance. The subject is children’s outdoor games that already exhibit signs of these relations that are typical for our society. The performers were given the rules of a game and were free to play, therefore creating an atmosphere of a socio-psychological experiment.

2015 BALAGAN!!! | NORDWIND performance program, Kühlhaus am Gleisdreieck, Berlin
Winner of the New Generation Award, Sasha Pirogova is acclaimed for both her videos and performances, both of which will be shown in BALAGAN!!! Let’s play, one of two performances specially devised for this exhibition, starts out from the idea of children’s games as playful parodies of adult society. David Elliot

WHY NOT
2015 | performance | 35′

Why not is a reaction to the ever-growing pressure on the private life of an individual through novel restrictions and bans. It aims at capturing the movements and gestures that could forever disappear under these circumstances. Tension is created between a mourning procession and various joyful moments of private life.

2015 BALAGAN!!! | NORDWIND performance program, Kühlhaus am Gleisdreieck, Berlin
In this work Sasha Pirogova moves towards a consideration of the different pressures to conform brought to bear on an individual by the symbiotic movements of a group. These may be banal, absurd or provocative, yet not all of the group, or the audience, can agree on which is which. David Elliot
